Architecture and Engineering for National Security and Life Science Projects

Based out of Colorado, Merrick & Co. services the Department of Defense, the nuclear and aerospace markets, infrastructure projects, energy, life sciences, and more. Their founder Sears Merrick is a former engineering professor at West Point.

Examples of Merrick & Co.’s projects involve the NASA Vehicle Assembly Building, the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) headquarters, and the CL2/CL3 laboratory in Toronto, Ontario.

Extracting Product Information From Revit 

We use Revit in designing our buildings. There are Revit families that can be tied into Fohlio and it helps us streamline the process, because we can export from Revit and into Fohlio.

Item codes are assigned by Revit. Parameters and images in Revit families can be inserted into Fohlio. We create schedules, images, and detailed info in Revit that we then export.

We make sure what gets put into Fohlio is correct. There are some 40 items we need to submit. It’s a lot and every item needs the formatted sheet or report. These are submitted to the client for approval.

Creating Templates for the Department of Defense and Other Clients

We recently started using the templates for our clients, which is part of our deliverables. Fohlio helps us keep this organized. We used to just type, copy, and paste into multiple documents.

We had to get our templates down because the DoD (Department of Defense) is so specific on their requirements for submittals and packages. Under the reports section, we can generate different types of reports.
